Project AF8 is a collaborative effort to save lives by planning and preparing a coordinated response across the South Island after a severe earthquake on the Alpine Fault.

Planning for the next severe earthquake on the Alpine Fault is based on a scenario and projections developed by a consortium of scientists brought together specially for Project AF8. The scenario focuses on a rupture of a 411km segment of the Alpine Fault, stretching from Fiordland to Kaniere, and the SAFER Framework provides the basis on which we will prepare for that eventuality.
